Algebra 2 Student Guidelines

Welcome to Algebra 2. This class is designed for you to learn several basic algebra techniques and apply those techniques to specific problems.  You will study solving equations and inequalities, solving linear systems, linear functions, quadratic functions, polynomial functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, radical equations, and probability. This class will be of great benefit to you if you choose to study math further either here at Rifle High School or at the college level.  In addition, it is designed to prepare you for the ACT test.

Grading:  You will earn points in this class on homework, quizzes, tests and a final.  Homework is worth about 30% of your total grade. The final is worth about 15% of your total grade. Tests and quizzes are worth about 55% of your total grade.  
Letter Grades are assigned as follows:
A = 94 - 100            A- = 90 - 93
B = 84 - 89             B- = 80 - 83
C = 74 - 79             C- = 70 - 73
D = 64 - 69             D- = 60 - 63
F = 59 and below        
Late Work:  No late work will be accepted unless a student has an excused absence.
Absences:  Students are expected to make up missed assignments within one day of each day absent.  It is your responsibility to get the assignment missed.  If a student misses a test or quiz they must make arrangements with Mr. Lowther to make it up.  Class assignments are posted on the door of room 110 and on Mr. Lowther's website at http://garfieldre2.k12.co.us/~clowther/.
Tardiness:  Students are expected to be in the room when the bell rings. If a student is tardy more than 2 times, they will receive lunch detention.
Calculators:  You are encouraged to have your own TI-83, TI-83 Plus or TI-84 calculator for this class.
Passes :  Students should ask Mr. Lowther to use a pass to go to the restroom.   Mr. Lowther has the right to deny any passes.  Excessive use of passes will result in the loss of pass privileges.
Food and Drink:  No food or drink (except water) is permitted in the classroom.
Cell Phones/ ipods/MP3 Players:  No electronic devices are permitted during class.  If they are seen or heard, they will be confiscated.
